Asia shares were mostly lower Friday, tracking Wall Street losses, while oil prices hovered near $100 per barrel as anxiety remained over the Iran war and its impact on supplies of crude oil and gas.

Brent crude oil hovered around $100 a barrel Thursday, after Iran’s new leader said the Strait of Hormuz would remain shut and as further attacks on ships in the Gulf spooked energy traders.

The price of oil jumped more than 7%, as the war on Iran was "creating the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market."

Stocks fell and global oil prices settled at $100 per barrel for the first time since 2022 as the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz continued to roil markets.

Brent crude futures, the global benchmark oil price, settled at $100.46 a barrel Thursday, continuing its sharp climb despite efforts to calm fuel markets, including the coordinated release of strategic reserves by the U.

As American and Israeli strikes pound the Islamic Republic and Iran attacks Persian Gulf shipping and energy infrastructure with no sign of an end to the war, oil prices have soared back above $100 a barrel.
